02 Mar 2005.      Toilet-training using cage, play-pen or crate confinement depends on your expertise and patience.  Most puppies can be toilet-trained within 14 days if you have time to train them.  Some puppies need urine smell on newspaper to be aware of the toilet location but some don't need it.

Toilet training. The puppy cage at Toa Payoh Vets or a pet shop. Newspaper in pee tray below. Some puppies associate newspaper for peeing when brought to new home, but others have no clues. Toilet training. Play-pen plus pee-tray. The pee tray stops shifting of the 4 panels of fences, collapsing on the puppy. It stops urine from staining the floor tiles.

Toilet-training. Confined to crate for 1-2 hours. Then go to newspaper or grass. The puppy had free access to the whole apartment. Newspaper placed in rooms were ignored. No urine smell.
